So I told Todd I'd run the Minneapolis Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in May...it's a 5k, people. That's like over three miles. So yesterday I went and signed up for a YMCA membership, and today I went and ran one mile. Hoo, buddy, let me tell you that I am not in the shape I was in three years ago.

The first half wasn't too bad. I kept a nice slow steady pace and didn't push it. Then around lap 9 (the track is on a mezz level above the gymnasium...requires 18 laps to finish one mile...a real thriller.) I started feeling this faintly familiar pain in my side and everything after that is an overheated blur. I MADE myself keep running, and the last half-lap I ran pretty fast...but when I was done I wasn't quite sure I wasn't going to puke. Luckily, I didn't. ;) That mile took me ten minutes; you're supposed to keep your heart rate up for 30 minutes, I hear, so I walked for twenty more minutes. Even when I left the locker room after I was done, though, I looked as though I'd contracted some sort of alarming rash on my face. Now, an hour and a half later, it has calmed itself to a nice shade of rosacea. Lovely.

Better you than me. I wouldn't have made the mile.

You HAVE to check out my blog. You have no idea of the emotional excitement of my last post. :)

Hey, call me or check your MySpace messages when you get a free moment. I would call you but Brianna broke the cell phone. I would e-mail you but someone got into my e-mail and changed my password, so no longer have your e-mail address. My week has been bad.......
